ModuleX® was selected for the Ebisu Daikanyama Store opened by Gyumotsunabe Nanokawa, a restaurant well-known for its many celebrity fans in Fukuoka City.
At the outset, we were informed that the design concept centers on maintaining a sense of balance—preserving the beloved flavors and homely ambiance that have been cherished for the last 35 years, while avoiding an overly luxurious atmosphere in careful consideration of the new location’s character and the expectations of long-time patrons.
We developed the lighting plan using our original Lighting Modulation in Viewing Angle Range® and Spectral Design® lighting design methods.
Upon entering, guests pass through a corridor with pendant lights suspended from the ceiling. To the right lie the table seating area and private rooms, with semi-private booths located in the back. Upon entering the table seating area, the eye is immediately drawn to the facing wall adorned with flowing calligraphic art. We set the lighting focal point slightly higher here to center exclusively on highlighting the piece.
We installed linear lighting fixtures behind the sofa seating to create a gentle gradient of light that extends seamlessly from the wall up to the ceiling.
To further enhance the calm atmosphere, we lowered the lighting focal point as much as possible to align with the eye level of seated guests.
Before formulating the lighting plan, we invited the client and the designer to our office to conduct experiments, illuminating several samples of the actual interior materials and comparing how each responded to the light.
We paid careful attention not only to how each illuminated material appears but also to how reflected light spreads throughout the space. We designed the lighting to balance the visual appeal of the cuisine with the overall spatial experience by separating the spectrum of light used to illuminate the food and artwork from that used in the gradient lighting that enhances the sense of calm.
In addition, by applying our original environmental control technology, ModuleX®Controls, we carefully balanced the luminance and illuminance between the tabletops and vertical surfaces to ensure a comfortable dining environment.
