ModuleX®︎ was selected for a studio built in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, as a base of design and IT development for the Fujifilm Group.

The studio consists of two buildings—design development base CLAY and IT development base ITs. Both feature a sharp and solid exterior made from concrete, with large glass windows.
Inside the studio is an impressively open space with large, wide windows and without pillars, and its design of connecting the first and second floors with an atrium also makes the studio look spacious.

Since the studio with many windows gets abundant natural light during the daytime, we used our proprietary lighting design technology, Lighting Naturalization®, to create the best lighting environment for workers by carefully balancing natural light and artificial light.
The interiors are designed based on mortar and a color scheme of black, which makes it feel dark even when there is enough brightness. To solve this problem, a lighting technique for gaining visual brightness was adopted to secure comfortable and functional brightness for a workspace.

The challenge in this lighting plan was to achieve a unified exterior view of the two separate buildings—CLAY and ITs—using lights.
In addition, the percentage of natural light that affects each building varies depending on the position of the sun, which means that applying the same lighting plan to the CLAY and ITs buildings would result in different brightness ratios.

Regarding the natural and artificial light in the internal space of each building in the transition from daytime to sunset to night, we used our original lighting design technology, Lighting Modulation in Viewing Angle Range®, to carefully consider how much lighting energy to shine where, for the best lighting environment. Based on this consideration, we successfully implemented the lighting plan with an appropriate balance between illumination and brightness that does not affect work.
Using glare-controlled spotlights achieved a studio environment with balanced brightness even in the nighttime, which allows the buildings to be highlighted only by the interior lighting.
