ModuleX® was selected for a renovation project of a three-story building facing an intersection located near Ohori Park in Fukuoka city.
While maintaining its calm appearance unique to old buildings, all floors of Kusagae Building was renovated. A café bar "ÉCRU" is now located on the first floor, where guests can enjoy natural wine and coffee. Also, a multi-purpose kitchen and a private lounge were opened on the second and third floors, respectively. Our client's request was to create a lighting design that makes people feel as if new fresh air overflows and spreads from inside the building to street corners.
In order to realize this request, we prepared a lighting concept with a lighting environment that is as simple as possible in order to express the transformation of services and experiences offered within the building, while maintaining the general framework of the architecture.
We made our lighting design so as to express how the space is used only by the strength and weakness of light, without making the light itself and lighting fixtures too assertive.
For the café and wine bar on the first floor, we used our original Lighting Modulation in Viewing Angle Range® lighting design method to adjust the balance of light so that the wine cellar room, the heart of the bar, becomes strikingly visible.
In addition, the use of our Filter Lighting® design allows the soft shadows around the bar counter to spread throughout the entire space.
For the second and third floors, we used SLEEK Platform lighting fixtures, which are easy to use with our proprietary optical performance that pursues lighting uniformity. The lighting environments on these floors consist of a simple layout with a minimum number of lighting fixtures, while using different lighting distributions and brightness according to how the space is used.
