ModuleX® lighting was adopted for the newly opened flower shop
Hana Saikai in Hasami Town, Nagasaki.
Celebrating its 50 years in business, Saikai Engei Co., Ltd. has opened
a new shop to expand its operations to include the business of space
design by gardeners in addition to landscaping and floral businesses.
The shop was renovated based on the concept of “cycle” and the
thatch, rocks, soil, and plants used in the building and garden are
all locally sourced materials, as shown on the thatched roof built using
a construction method rooted in the landscape and life of Hasami Town.
In response to a request to make flowers look beautiful and to be
flexible to changes in the layout, we set three challenges,
and we proposed our lighting plan to realize those: “to make the
flowers and materials look the same as when they are in nature”
“to be able to respond to changes in the spatial layout” “to not
make our lighting fixtures stand out and to keep the design simple”
Applying our original Lighting Modulation in Viewing Angle Range®
lighting design method, we determined where lighting fixtures should
be positioned after taking into account where and how much lighting
energy is given off in the space. Among the several proposals we
provided, the client adopted the lighting plan with a simple
configuration that can accommodate any future layout changes
by unifying the lighting fixtures with our standard silver color
to blend in with the interior.
By adjusting the brightness balance in the space, which gets plenty of
natural light during the day, we created a space that lets customers
naturally be drawn to the flowers and materials used,
highlighting the natural beauty and charm of them.
